What you’ll need to get started

Choose your plan below or send an email regarding a personalized plan. For all of the mentoring plans, you’ll need Internet connection, email capability, and the ability to photograph your work and attach low-resolution .jpg images to an email. For some plans, Skype connection is helpful but not an absolute requirement.

 

The one-shot deal

Email a .jpg image of one painting and receive a detailed critique with suggestions for improvement to the painting.

The body of work

Email up to twelve .jpg images of your paintings and receive a written, comprehensive critique of the body of work as a whole (not individual critiques). The evaluation will include specific suggestions for areas to concentrate on in the future in order to improve your work overall. This plan will help point you in the right direction to make significant improvement to your work overall.

Move to a higher level

Includes the critique of a body of work above, assistance in defining and setting your artistic goals, and developing a long-range plan. Also included is a periodic review of new work, and periodic consultation by email for a three-month period.

The online workshop

Follow a series of five specific assignments to explore possibilities in pastel technique. Each assignment/outline of technique will be tailored to your level of expertise and experience. You’ll send .jpgs of the painting in progress as you work. Suggestions and constructive direction will be delivered by email or by interactive Skype conversations. A final review of all the work in the session will be provided by email.

Maggie Price has juried and judged many national-level pastel and multimedia exhibitions. She was the founding editor of The Pastel Journal magazine and has authored over 100 articles about art and artists, and has written two instructional books on painting with pastels. Since 2003, she has taught 8-10 workshops annually, in the U.S. and abroad. She will rely on this experience and knowledge to give clear, honest, constructive feedback on artist's work. As always when seeking a critique, artists should be aware that they might receive different information or a different opinion from another source.
