“The subjects of my paintings are always places or things that caught my attention because of a pattern of light and shadow, color or shape. Sometimes they are places that I’ve visited, whether to explore on my own or to teach a workshop, and sometimes they’re near my home. Some were done on location, and are identified by the words “plein air” following the title, and some were painted after I returned to my studio from the location, with the subject still in mind. The common element in all of these paintings is something beautiful or wonderful that I wanted to share with others.
